RAPTALK.NET REVIEWS RAIN'S "AMERICAN DREAMIN" MIXTAPE

Raptalk.net reviews this new mixtape/street album from the North Carolina native...

Reviewed by: D~Nice 4 Raptalk

North Carolina's own Rain just dropped his new mixtape "American Dreamin." The mixtape starts off with a bang with the title track; Rain effortlessly flows over the drum heavy beat. Scram Jones provides the beat for Back 2 Life, which again show Rain flexing his lyrical muscle on the track. For You is another banger with Allure on the hook. The mixtape plays more like an album with the original production and the song structure. Rain is definitely bringing something different to the table and is not your average rapper southern rapper. Great storytelling raps are shown on Life Of The Party and The Way We Move featuring Chuck Taylor, which is a hot track. Rain even does a nice remake of the Jackson 5 hit Can U Feel It and makes it into a nice club banger which Rain does his thing on; he is very versitile with his delivery and subject matter. There is not a weak track on this project. Definitely pick this street album/mixtape up. This is a rapper that is definitely one peeps will be hearing more from in the future.

RAIN: AMERICAN DREAMIN- INTERVIEW ON THATSHIPHOP.COM

Rain - American Dreamin

Written by Monique B.

Staying true to yourself is a rule that one rapper has learned at a young age. Since he was 14 years old, this North Carolina rapper has talked about his life through the gift of rhyming and sacrificed a lot to be where he is today. His family relocated from North Carolina to seek refuge for his father running from the law. Living the street life was a way of life, not a choice that many people seem to make. Throughout the hardships he endured, Rain sought comfort through music. After realizing high school was a stagnant place for teens seeking growth and advice, a 14 year old Rain left for New York to pursue a career in music full time. While most rappers fabricated concepts and stories in their rhymes, Rain talked about the life he lived in North Carolina which didn’t appease industry movers and shakers in signing him. In New York Rain met Jay-Z and Dame Dash, but failed to comprehend the advice they were giving him about changing the content in his music. Even after meeting one of the greatest rappers to touch the mic, who advised him to alter his style of music, Rain didn’t change at all.

RAIN INTERVIEWED ON MUZIKIZME.COM

Rain is a necessity, we may like it, we may not, but at the end of the day it is required to encourage growth, it provides nourishment and often after rain comes sun. Randy ‘Rain’ Watford is the personification of a celebrity in the making, not just because he provides the thirsty hip-hop fan with something to satiate their thirst, but because at just eight-teen years young he displays true understanding of two key elements a person needs to possess to get a head start in the ‘game’; focus and drive.

Badnews: I spoke to you not to long ago and where we last left you were in the lab with the Heatmakers producer Arsonist. How is that going?

Rain: It’s going great. Arsonist is real energetic, he goes a certain direction. He doesn’t make beats, he paints a picture. It’s cool to get in the studio with a guy like that

Badnews: That’s what’s up. Now you’re from Fayetteville, NC how is the hip hop scene down there?

RAIN INTERVIEWED ON 24HOURHIPHOP.COM

24: Introduce yourself to the readers and let everyone know where you’re repping and how long how you been rapping for?

Rain: What up yall, this Rain repping Fayetteville, North Carolina. I’ve been making music since I was about 9 years old. I got over 10 years into this craft. I'm not one of these guys that look at it as just another hustle.

24: Not many artists in the game except are from North Carolina so is that something you really want to take advantage of and open the doors for more artists to come through?

Rain: Yeah, that's the plan. I mean Florida, Georgia, Texas, New York, Cali, they all came in the game and made a mark. I love listening to all kinds of music but none of it represents where IM from to the fullest. I know the people in my city would love to hear our story from someone who really lived it and someone they know personally.

24: You were recently in XXL "Show & Prove" section and you’re not signed to a major as yet and The Source Magazine so tell me how big was that for you seeing yourself in 2 creditable magazines like XXL & The Source?

RAIN INTERVIEWED ON HIPHOPBASE.NET

"The radio doesn’t help, there a lot of talent out here that need to be heard. That’s why when I come up the way we planned, I hope to bring artists from my hood with me."

Badnews: I know you got into hip hop at a very early age, how did you get in?
Rain: I just used music to express how I felt. I used it as another outlet. It was crazy growing up for me, my mom worked all the time and my pops was locked up. I just used music to escape.
Badnews: Now you’re from Fayetteville, North Carolina. How has the scene progressed since you entered the scene?

Rain: There are a lot of guys doing there thing but there not being heard because there are no outlets out here. You go to different cities like Detroit and you see how they come up battling 8 Mile style you know—like there are different ways to come up, but there not that many ways to come up like that out here. The radio doesn’t help, there a lot of talent out here that need to be heard. That’s why when I come up the way we planned, I hope to bring artists from my hood with me.
Badnews: That’s what’s up. Now for the past six months are so, you been making a lot of noise on the internet. You’re doing interview after interview, and even snuck in XXL magazine. But just coming up, what other ways do you try and promote yourself besides going on the net?

HOMETOWN NOISE
Let it always be know that I am from Fayetteville, NC. My family and I have lived in the Atlanta suburbs for the past 15 years but make no mistake, Fayetteville is home. So on that note, I think that I may have found one of the 7 artists who will vie for a performance during our "Best of the Best" Showcase. It just so happens he is from my hometown, hence the name of this feature…

RAIN is a necessity, we may like it, we may not, but at the end of the day it is required to encourage growth, it provides nourishment and often after rain comes sun. Born and raised in the city of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Rain has an aura about him not often seen in someone so young. He possesses the rare ability to captivate an audience with his stories, reminiscent of Hip-Hop icons such as Kool G Rap and Rakim. Rain began putting his views and ideas to paper at the age of thirteen with a determination to shine a light on the struggles and obstacles young people face trying to make their way in a sometimes confusing world. Rain wants to be recognized for going against the grain as opposed to jumping on the same old my chain, my car, band wagon. "Whatever is going on in the industry, I am going to do the opposite." He thrives on creativity and flourishes on originality all the while staying focused on making songs and hits.
To all you MC's out there in the MMC region who claim to be the best, Rain is a serious artist and has been featured in both the Source (Unsigned Hype) and XXL He has dropped freestyles on BET's Rap City Top Ten Countdown and in recent months has hooked up with Atlanta's own DJ Don Cannon of the World Famous Aphilliates on a mixtape, "Highly Unanticipated".
